A pale-shelled turtle makes its way among leaves and water plants, seen from above. The watercolour surrounds the animal with intense greens, yellows and deep blues, with layered patches that suggest the filtered light of the pond. The contrast between the luminous shell and the saturated background draws the eye to the figure.
