A Bengal tiger looks straight ahead, its pale eyes fixed on the viewer. The watercolour, worked almost in monochrome with sepias and greys, builds up the stripes of the fur with quick brushstrokes that dissolve downwards into drips over the grey background. The restraint in colour gives strength to the gaze and to the volume of the head.
